11 November 08:33

The State Tax Service has once again recorded the fact of mass emails allegedly sent on its behalf containing malware. This was reported by the press service of the State Tax Service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

How the scheme works

According to the press service of the State Tax Service, attackers send messages from fake addresses that look like official ones (for example, [email protected], [email protected]).

The subject line of the email usually reads: “Urgent message: clarification of tax reporting based on the results of the audit”.

Attachments include files in the formats .zip, .rar, .scr, or .exe, which contain the virus.

After opening such a file, a malicious program is activated on the computer, which can give attackers access to personal data or even full control of the device.

What does the State Tax Service advise?

The State Tax Service emphasizes that it does not send such emails and urges users to be vigilant.

Experts advise

  • do not open attachments in suspicious emails;
  • check the sender’s address – even if it seems official;
  • to observe cyber hygiene – regularly update your antivirus and do not download files from unknown sources;
  • if in doubt, confirm the fact of sending the letter with the tax office or through official contacts.

Similar cases

Earlier, the Cyberpolice has already recorded similar cases of fraud, including the creation of a fake website duplicating the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was used to extort money from citizens.
