Weather on April 7: A cold snap with frosts is expected to hit Ukraine
7 April 01:10
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the weather in Ukraine will change dramatically. As a cold atmospheric front passes through, most of the country will find itself in the wake of a new cold air mass. This will bring a drop in temperatures, rain, strong winds, and nighttime frosts in some regions. Meteorologist Natalka Didenko warned of this change, and the official forecast was confirmed by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the forecast, on the afternoon of April 7, temperatures in most regions will drop to 4–9 degrees, while warmer weather will persist in the south—8–13 degrees. At night, temperatures will range from 1–6 degrees, and in the southeast—down to 9 degrees.
This is why Tuesday will be one of the coldest days of early April following a brief warm spell over the weekend.
Where frosts are expected in Ukraine
The greatest weather risk on the night of April 7 is ground frost. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, frost is forecast for the western, northern, and most central regions. Ground temperatures there may drop to 0…-3 degrees, and in Zakarpattia, frostispossibleinthe air as well.
Separately, forecasters have warned of frosts in the Kyiv region. A Level I (yellow) danger alert has been issued for the region and Kyiv due to expected nighttime ground frosts on April 7, 8, and 9.
What will the weather be like on April 7 across Ukraine
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center forecasts cloudy weather with some clear spells. Moderate rain is possible overnight in the southeast, while the rest of the country will be mostly dry.
During the day, light rain will fall across all of Ukraine.

Forecaster Natalka Didenko also warns that on April 8–9, wet snow is even possible in some areas, meaning the cold snap will be wave-like rather than a one-time event.
Another unpleasant feature of the day will be a strong northwesterly wind. In some regions, gusts will reach 15–20 m/s. It is the wind that will make the weather on April 7 feel significantly colder than the thermometers indicate.
What will the weather be like in Kyiv on April 7
In Kyiv on Tuesday, April 7, temperatures are expected to drop to 6–8 degrees during the day and around 3–5 degrees at night. Light rain is possible in the capital, along with a strengthening of the northwesterly wind. Ground frosts of 0–3 degrees are forecast for the region, so a separate warning about hazardous weather conditions has been issued for the Kyiv region.
When will it warm up?
According to preliminary estimates by Natalka Didenko, a noticeable warming in Ukraine is expected around April 14–15. Until then, the country will remain under the influence of colder air, and nighttime frosts will continue for at least several more days.
In other words, the cold snap on April 7 is not a brief one-day episode, but the start of a cooler stretch of weather.
