Pokrovsk under threat of complete Russian encirclement – Washington Post

14 August 05:14

The situation on the eastern front of Ukraine is escalating – the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region is on the verge of being completely surrounded by Russian troops. This statement was made by a U.S. official on condition of anonymity when discussing current assessments of the situation on the battlefield. It was reported by the Washington Post, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs

Key logistics point under attack

Pokrovsk has long been an important supply and logistics center for Ukrainian forces in this area. However, intense Russian attacks have rendered many transportation routes unusable.

According to the source, Ukrainian defenders have been reinforcing defensive positions in the region to deter the offensive, but the situation is reminiscent of the events of 2023 near Bakhmut, when the city’s strong defenses were eventually breached.

Losses on both sides

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that at least 531 Russian soldiers were killed on Monday alone, and 428 others were wounded. Ukraine lost 18 soldiers, 243 were wounded, and 79 went missing.

Difficult situation in the Pokrovsk sector

The 1st Azov Corps has recently been redeployed to this hottest section of the frontline. The unit confirms that the situation is dynamic and extremely difficult.

Veteran Bohdan Krotevych publicly addressed the president, emphasizing that an almost complete encirclement is forming near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, and the Pokrovsk-Konstantinovka line has long been in a critical condition that is deteriorating daily.

Trump’s statements amid the escalation

Against the backdrop of these events, US President Donald Trump has lowered expectations for his August 15 summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, calling it an “interim meeting” and “an attempt to understand what Putin is up to.”

Analysts note that such rhetoric may affect the psychological background of support for Ukraine from its allies, especially at a time when the situation on the frontline is approaching critical.
