Poland starts returning fugitives to Ukraine

Polish border guards have begun to help their Ukrainian colleagues return to Ukraine those who managed to cross the border by swimming across the river. At least two such cases were reported by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“One of the desperate people was found by the border patrol of the Ambukiv department near the Ukrainian-Polish border on Sunday morning. The unknown man, seeing the border guards, began to run away and swam to the neighbouring shore. Border guards informed their colleagues on the other side of the state border, where the unfortunate swimmer was detained by officers of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland,”
– the SBGS wrote.
The detainee was a 31-year-old native of Sumy region. The SBGS claims that its Polish colleagues handed him back to Ukraine:
“He did not stay in Poland for long, as the Polish guards handed the offender over to the border guards of the Volyn detachment as part of the readmission process. Law enforcement officers drew up an administrative report against the citizen under Article 204-1 of the Code of Administrative Offences, and a representative of the CCCC&R served the serviceman with a summons.”

This was the second such case, so such actions by Polish border guards are becoming more and more systematic.
“A protocol on an administrative offence and a summons were also waiting for a 26-year-old native of Donetsk Oblast, who had tried to illegally get to Poland in the same way the day before,”
– the SBGS reported.
