American director and animator Roger Allers, one of the creators of the animated film “The Lion King,” died at the age of 77.
This was announced by his colleague Dave Bossert, according to Variety, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
“I am deeply saddened by the news that our friend Roger Allers has passed away,” Bossert said.
He described Allers as an extremely talented artist and director, calling him “a pillar of the Disney studio’s renaissance.”
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Roger Allers was a key figure in Disney’s animation division in the 1990s. In addition to working on The Lion King (1994), he contributed to such hits as Aladdin (1992) and The Emperor’s New Groove (2000). The Lion King won two Oscars and became one of the highest-grossing animated projects in history.
