More than 14,000 energy sector workers will receive a bonus from the government: what amounts are involved

The government has allocated 281.3 million hryvnias from the state budget’s reserve fund to support emergency repair crews who restored power and heat following massive attacks by the Russian Federation. More than 14,000 energy workers will receive this assistance.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
According to Shmyhal, the funds have been allocated to the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Community Development to cover payments for work performed in February. Of the total amount, 190.7 million hryvnias are earmarked for Ukrainian energy workers.
“Each of the 14,000 workers will receive 20,000 hryvnias in cash as assistance for their difficult work under extraordinary conditions,” he said.
As the minister clarified, in January 2026, nearly 152 million hryvnias had already been paid to approximately 8,000 emergency response team members. For February, more than 9,500 people will receive assistance from the Ministry of Energy.
Shmyhal noted that the support program has been expanded and modified. It now includes employees officially assigned the duties of emergency response team leaders during operations, as well as employees from other industries who were sent on business trips to carry out restoration work at the request of regional state administrations.
The next tranche of aid will be paid for work performed in March. At the same time, companies will be able to submit lists of employees involved in the restoration through the “Diya” portal in April as well.
Russian shelling and additional payments to energy workers
This winter, Ukrainian energy workers labored under extremely difficult conditions, restoring power and heat following Russian attacks.
Air temperatures dropped to minus 20 degrees during the day and minus 30 degrees at night, which, in the absence of heating, became a serious challenge.
According to the Air Force, Russian occupiers carried out 14 massive attacks on Ukraine over the winter.
In January 2026, the government launched a special support program for energy workers serving in repair and restoration crews during the winter.
These are specialists who work around the clock under the most difficult conditions—under shelling and in severe frost—restoring the power grid in all regions of Ukraine.
As early as the beginning of February 2026, the government began accepting applications for a supplementary payment of 20,000 hryvnias.
