The Danish Postal Service will stop delivering letters after 400 years of operation. What is the reason?

The Danish postal service PostNord has announced that it will deliver its last letter on December 30, 2025, focusing on parcel delivery.
This was reported by the Guardian, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The reason for this decision was a 90% drop in the number of letters since 2000 due to digitalization.
As a result, the company will lay off 1500 employees and dismantle 1500 mailboxes.
Kim Pedersen, CEO of PostNord Denmark, said that the changes are necessary for sustainable business development, but it is a difficult decision given the 400-year history of the postal service.
Despite these changes, the Danish government assured that people will continue to be able to send letters. PostNord’s competitor, DAO, which was awarded the contract to deliver government mail last year, has announced its readiness to expand its services.
According to the Guardian, other European postal services are experiencing similar difficulties. For example, Deutsche Post in Germany is cutting 8,000 jobs, and the British Royal Mail plans to reduce the frequency of letter delivery to save money.
