U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink resigns from her post at her own request. She had been heading the American diplomatic mission in Kyiv for three years. This was reported by Reuters with reference to a spokesperson for the US State Department, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“Ambassador Brink is resigning. She has been ambassador there for three years, which is a long time in a war zone,” the State Department said in a statement.

Brink was nominated for the post of ambassador to Kyiv by former President Joe Biden and served since May 2022. She is leaving the post of her own free will, sources said.

She is one of the top diplomats who were retained by the new head of the State Department, Marco Rubio, after the inauguration of President Donald Trump on January 20.

It is not yet known who will take over as US Ambassador to Ukraine.

According to Reuters sources, Chris Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Eastern European and Regional Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, is being considered for the post. Previously, Smith served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Kyiv from 2022 to 2023.

It should be noted that recently Brigitte Brink was criticized in Ukraine for her reaction to the Russian attack on Kryvyi Rih, when she did not mention Russia in her comments.
