The Army app has a new feature for military personnel – submitting a report on returning to service after unauthorized absence from the unit. This option has become available in accordance with the new law on AWOL, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Kateryna Chornohorenko said during a telethon, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The Rada recently passed a law exempting military personnel from liability for first desertion or HRW if they voluntarily return to service.
“We have added functionality to the Army app … so that a soldier can initiate a report on returning to service after AWOL and can quickly return to service, regain social guarantees, regain his salary and then return to the military unit he wants to choose, where he wants to serve,” said Chornogorenko.
She clarified that no sanctions will be imposed on a serviceman returning from the NWC for the first time.
The report submitted through the app is reviewed within 24 hours. After that, the serviceman receives a notification to report to the reserve battalion. Currently, there are 17 such battalions in Ukraine, which are temporary points for the resumption of service. After completing the necessary procedures, a soldier can be transferred to the unit he or she considers relevant.
The law on returning from the NWC
The law on returning to service from the NWC, which was signed yesterday by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, does not mention January 1, 2025 as the deadline for unpunished return.
According to the document, during martial law, military personnel who first arbitrarily left military units or places of service or deserted and voluntarily arrived at the place of service and expressed their willingness to continue military service, military service and the contract are extended.
Salary payments, benefits and social guarantees, as well as all other types of support are resumed for such servicemen.
At the same time, the implementation of the law will not lead to the release of servicemen from criminal liability.
