The second attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Saratov Oil Refinery: what is known

16 October 12:54

On the night of October 16, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an oil refinery in the Saratov region of the Russian Federation.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The Saratov Oil Refinery is one of the oldest oil refineries in Russia. As of 2023, its oil refining volume amounted to 4.8 million tons.

The company is involved in meeting the needs of the Russian army and specializes in the production of more than 20 types of petroleum products. These include gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, various grades of bitumen, vacuum gas oil, and industrial sulfur.

The previous attack on the facility took place exactly one month ago, on September 16.

Since the beginning of 2024, Russian refineries have been regularly attacked by Ukrainian drones. At some refineries, primary oil refining units were out of order and needed to be repaired.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed most of the attacks, stating that it “consistently takes measures aimed at undermining the military and economic potential of the Russian Federation, in particular its ability to provide the occupation forces with fuel, ammunition and weapons, as well as to stop the armed aggression against Ukraine.”
