3 January 04:31
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced personnel changes in the leadership of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Major General Serhiy Dyneko, who has been heading the SBGS since June 2019, is leaving his post and will continue to work in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to the head of state, during Dyneko’s leadership, the Border Guard Service has come a long way in development and strengthening, especially in the context of a full-scale war. The SBGS units are now performing combat missions on the front line together with other components of the Defense and Security Forces, and the protection of the borders with Russia and Belarus has been significantly strengthened.
“At the same time, there are tasks to change approaches to the work of the State Border Guard Service,” the President explained, commenting on the need for personnel decisions.
Who will lead the SBGS next
Zelenskyy said that in the near future, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko would present candidates for the position of the new head of the SBGS.
Until a decision is made, Sergiy Dyneko will continue to perform his tasks within the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Career of Sergiy Dyneko
Serhiy Dyneko became the head of the State Border Guard Service in June 2019. Prior to that, he worked as Deputy Director of the Operations Department in the SBGS Administration, and during the ATO he was in charge of the Luhansk Border Guard Detachment. In 2014, he was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, II class, for special merits, and in April 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Major General.
Context of personnel changes in the government
The information about the possible new appointment came amid a broader reshuffle of personnel announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In his video address on January 2, he said that he hadproposed that Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov take over the Ministry of Defense.
At the same time, the head of state emphasized that Denys Shmyhal “remains in the team” and will receive a new area of work, which the president described as “no less important for the country’s stability.” At the time, Zelenskyy did not specify the name of the department.
Further reshuffles in the government
On the same day, the president announced other possible personnel decisions. In particular, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate , Kyrylo Budanov, received an offer to head the Presidential Office. Later, Zelenskyi named Budanov’s likely successor in the GUR – it could be the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleh Ivashchenko.
