Products from ATB to every village: how Ukrposhta will help retailers cover the whole country

Ukrainian retail has received a new format of cooperation between national companies: ATB-Market and Ukrposhta have launched a partnership project designed to provide basic food to residents of even the most remote regions of the country. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of the country’s national postal operator.

The initiative is a response to the current challenge: how to ensure equal access to essential goods for all Ukrainians, regardless of whether they live in a big city or a small village.

Partnership with ATB is not just about convenience, but about equal opportunities for everyone. While residents of large cities have long been accustomed to door-to-door delivery, for residents of remote villages this will be a real restart of the system of access to goods. Our task is to provide the entire country not only with basic social, logistics and financial services, but also with medicines and food. This is what the full accessibility model looks like, with the same level of service regardless of where you live,” Ukrposhta explained.

From ATB shelves to the table in every village: how the new format will work

The mechanics of cooperation are simple: ATB is responsible for assortment and pricing, while Ukrposhta provides delivery.

ATB offers its customers an affordable grocery basket – a set of basic goods that includes food, hygiene products and household goods. “Ukrposhta, in turn, has more than 26,000 points of presence: stationary and mobile branches, and soon post offices. Such an extensive network allows us to deliver orders to virtually any location in Ukraine.

To use the service, you need to place an order on the official ATB website. All customers receive free delivery to any Ukrposhta branch in any city, village or community. The offer is valid until November 30, 2025 for orders from UAH 299 and weighing up to 30 kilograms.

ATB and Ukrposhta launched joint delivery: why it is important for consumers

For many Ukrainians, especially in rural areas, access to modern retail infrastructure remains limited. Large chain stores often do not operate in small communities due to logistical difficulties and low population density. The new cooperation between ATB and Ukrposhta effectively closes this logistical gap, making products from big cities available to even the most remote villages.

For the consumer, this means

  • stable prices, the same as in the ATB network;
  • a wide range of products that is constantly updated;
  • convenient order pickup at the nearest post office;
  • saving time and money on the way to the city.

Ukrainians from remote villages will receive products without extra charges and logistical barriers. What are the benefits for business?

For ATB, the project opens up a new market – “uncovered” regions where the company had no physical presence before. “Ukrposhta, on the other hand, receives an additional flow of shipments and the opportunity to expand its role as a logistics partner for e-commerce and retail.

Economic experts say that this model of cooperation could become a new trend for the Ukrainian market: retailers focus on prices and quality, while the state post office focuses on delivery infrastructure.

Theoretically, if the pilot phase of cooperation proves successful, the companies can expand the initiative to include frozen food delivery, create joint payment services, or even launch a separate mobile application.Thus, ATB and Ukrposhta can form a new model of food logistics that combines the trading efficiency of private business with the scale of the state postal network.

At a time when the availability of goods and the stability of logistics are of strategic importance, this project can be an important step towards true economic inclusion, where even the smallest communities feel like a full-fledged part of the Ukrainian consumer market.

How ATB became the largest retail chain in Ukraine: the path from six grocery stores to a thousand supermarkets

ATB-Market supermarket chain is one of Ukraine’s leading retail chains operating in the discounter format.

The ATB chain was founded in 1993: six grocery stores of AgroTechBusiness were merged in the city of Dnipro. In 1998, the ATB-Market brand (an acronym for Agro-Tech-Business) was registered and the development of the all-Ukrainian network began.

In the 2000s, the chain was transformed into a discounter format with a high concentration of self-service, simplified assortment and minimum prices, which corresponded to the new market conditions.

As of the beginning of 2022, the ATB chain had about 1,250 stores in approximately 298 locations in Ukraine. It is estimated that more than 4 million Ukrainians visit the chain’s stores every day. The assortment of one store includes more than 3,500 items of goods, of which a significant share (more than 800 items) are the chain’s own brands.

The chain’s business model is based on the discounter format: reduced logistics and advertising costs, centralized procurement, and high turnover rates, which allows it to offer competitive prices.

The company is actively expanding its sales network and modernizing existing stores. For example, in 2020, 127 new stores were opened and 59 facilities were overhauled. In addition, store formats will change: the share of renovated facilities in the chain is growing, which allows for increased productivity.

ATB is a leader in the Ukrainian retail market in terms of turnover, number of stores and regional presence. Its own brands, efficient logistics, and coverage of regions with low competition all contribute to the chain’s strong competitive position. In addition, the company is also a significant employer, employing tens of thousands of people.
