Transnistria is in an energy crisis due to gas supply interruption

1 January 13:33

The unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic is on the verge of energy collapse due to Ukraine’s suspension of gas transit. The local gas operator said that all key facilities will be cut off from gas supply today, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“Due to the termination of the supply of Russian “blue fuel”, Tiraspoltransgaz-Transnistria LLC will disconnect from gas supply until noon today: roof boilers that provide heating; private houses in cities, villages and towns; apartment buildings with autonomous heating. In apartment buildings without autonomous heating, gas is still available for cooking,”

– tiraspoltransgaz-Transnistria informed users.

Accordingly, the unrecognized republic is shutting down heat supply.

According to local media, the collapse has affected not only the PMR, but also Moldova itself. In particular, this morning, Chisinau allegedly experienced problems with electricity supply, which caused the city’s electric transport to stop working.

It is also reported that the Moldovan state power plant has switched to coal, which should be enough for 50-52 days. Therefore, during this time, electricity supply will be guaranteed both in Moldova and in the PMR.

In addition, the Moldovan authorities have stated that they have enough gas purchased in Europe to get through the heating season. However, Moldova is not going to share it with Transnistria.

There seems to be no other solution than Russian gas to provide district heating in the TMR. Tirasteploenergo has already published safety rules for the use of home heating devices.
