Border guard who shot a fugitive taken into custody

An employee of the State Border Guard Service who shot a man who was trying to flee the country has been notified of suspicion of violating the rules for handling weapons and a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail has been imposed. This was reported by Tatiana Sapian, a communications adviser to the State Bureau of Investigation, during a telethon, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“As of today, we have an officially announced suspicion of violating the rules for handling weapons, which led to the victim’s death. Under this article, one can be imprisoned for 10 years. At this stage, a pre-trial investigation is underway, and I can say that a preventive measure has been imposed on the law enforcement officer. It is detention without bail,”

– the counsellor said.

The murder took place on 15 May. a 39-year-old resident of Dnipro tried to cross the Ukrainian-Romanian border in Zakarpattia. He was spotted by border guards when he was heading towards the border, but when they asked him to stop, he tried to run away. The servicemen allegedly fired several warning shots, but the man was later found dead with a bullet wound to the head.

The State Border Guard Service, which likes to report on the detention of male fugitives from the country, did not report anything about this incident.
