“Putin is a lucky sucker”: political analyst Dymov on the Russian president, Trump and Mykolaiv

10 September 16:21

Putin would not have survived in Mykolaiv, Trump does not know what it means to survive, and the world is on the verge of reformatting geopolitical alliances. Valeriy Dymov, political scientist and head of the Center for Strategic Communications “Forum”, said this in an interview with "Komersant Ukrainian".

In a frank interview, the expert spoke about his personal assessment of Putin and Trump, drew parallels with his own experience in Mykolaiv, and shared his thoughts on the new Yalta and Russia’s attempts to change the rules of the game in the world.

The political scientist spoke harshly about the origins and political rise of Vladimir Putin, emphasizing his accidental rise to power:

“Putin is a lucky sucker. That is, a person who happened to be in power. Such a person would not have survived in Mykolaiv,” said Valeriy Dymov.

He recalled how Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky actually created Putin as a political project:

“Berezovsky said, ‘Give me the first button and I’ll make my sheepdog president. Instead of a sheepdog, he made Putin. And then Putin destroyed both Berezovsky and Peter Kasyushvili, because they knew his whole background,” the expert notes.

“Trump is a jerk who has gone bankrupt six times”

Commenting on Donald Trump, the expert noted that he never fought for his life, but only manipulated financial instruments:

“Trump may be a trump card, but he is not a fighter. He is a man who has gone bankrupt six times. He simply took other people’s money, registered it for himself and bankrupted companies,” Dymov said.

He doubts that Trump could have survived in harsh social conditions similar to those in which the expert grew up:

“Trump would not have survived in my neighborhood. He simply wouldn’t have gotten there,” the political scientist said.

Commenting on the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, the political scientist is convinced that this is an attempt by the Kremlin to reformat the geopolitical balance:

“Putin dreams of Yalta 2.0. He believes that he and Trump can divide the world,” Dymov said.

However, according to the expert, the current situation in the world does not allow drawing “red lines” as it was in 1945:

“There is a global war going on today. Those who have not yet lost will not agree that they have already lost. And those who are already winning will not share with those who are weak,” he explains.

So, according to Dymov, the old games of Putin and Trump are looking increasingly outdated. Today, a new world is at stake – one without leaders on a tightrope and without “lucky suckers” in power. And if anyone else dreams of dividing the planet into spheres of influence, they should get ready to wake up in a completely different reality.

As a reminder, political scientist Oleg Dymov is known for his harsh characterizations of Russian politics and public assessments of the Kremlin’s actions. Commenting on events in the international arena, he often uses non-academic vocabulary to emphasize Vladimir Putin’s weaknesses or failures.
