The Kremlin has confirmed that a bilateral meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will take place in the near future. This was announced by Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Radio Liberty.
“At the suggestion of the American side, an agreement was agreed in principle to hold a bilateral meeting at the highest level in the coming days,” Ushakov said.
He added that the location of the meeting has already been agreed upon, but it will be announced later. The tentative date for the talks is next week.
“It’s hard to say how many days the preparations will take,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
Ushakov also said that the United States had previously expressed the idea of a trilateral format of talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, he said, “Moscow left it without comment.”
As a reminder, Trump has already called the meeting between his special envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin in Moscow “very productive” and said that “significant progress” had been made. He also believes that both Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin may agree to hold a joint meeting.
In addition, on Thursday, Trump had a phone conversation with Zelenskyy. According to media reports, European leaders also joined the discussion.
