Putin invites Zelensky to Moscow – AFP

During a conversation with US President Donald Trump on August 18, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin offered to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Moscow. This was reported by AFP, citing its own sources.

According to the newspaper, during talks with US President Trump, Putin expressed the idea of organizing a bilateral summit with Zelensky in the Russian capital.

“Putin mentioned Moscow,” AFP quoted its source as saying.

However, the Ukrainian president, who was at the White House at the time meeting with European leaders and Donald Trump, gave an unequivocal answer: “No”.

On August 15, Trump and Putin held talks in Alaska.

Already on August 18, Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington, where he held multilateral consultations with Trump and the leaders of the EU and NATO.

After these talks, Trump called Putin to agree on the format of future meetings.

What’s next

Moscow insists on a bilateral format of dialogue between Zelenskyy and Putin. At the same time, it is considering organizing a trilateral meeting with the participation of the United States.

Possible venues for such a summit include Geneva and Hungary. Switzerland has already officially stated that it is ready to host the talks and grant Putin “immunity” from the International Criminal Court.

US President Donald Trump emphasized that he sees the prospect of a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin in the coming weeks. According to him, the format of the talks is still being discussed, but he hopes for “important steps toward peace.”
