On Thursday, June 19, Putin and Xi Jinping talked on the phone for about an hour.
During the conversation, they agreed to meet in Tianjin, China, at the SCO summit, with bilateral talks scheduled for September 2, Putin’s aide said.
In addition, on September 3 in Beijing, Putin and Xi will take part in events dedicated to the end of World War II, a Soviet tradition of celebrating Victory Day over Japan on the anniversary of its surrender, which marked the end of the war.
According to Ushakov, Putin and Xi also discussed the situation in the Middle East. “Both Moscow and Beijing fundamentally proceed from the fact that the settlement of the current situation and issues related to Iran’s nuclear program cannot be resolved by force,” Ushakov said, as quoted by the Russian news agency TASS. – “A settlement can and should be achieved exclusively by political and diplomatic means.
The G7 summit in Canada was also a topic of discussion: Ushakov said that Putin and Xi allegedly noted “rough edges” between the participants of the event.
It should be noted that in May, the Chinese leader visited Russia for several days. At the meeting, he and Putin agreed to take cooperation between the two countries to a new level and “resolutely” resist US influence.
