Repairs to the Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant will take a long time: how Kyiv residents will be saved from the cold
3 February 22:51
The restoration of the Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant will take a considerable amount of time, as the facility suffered serious damage as a result of the Russian attack. The authorities have already developed a phased action plan to protect the capital’s residents from the cold and minimize the consequences of a prolonged heat outage. This was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“This is a war crime”: what is known about the state of the thermal power plant
According to the minister, the Darnytska TPP was focused exclusively on producing heat for residential buildings, and the damage caused to it is a deliberate attack on civilian infrastructure.
“The Darnytsia thermal power plant, which was focused solely on producing heat for people, has suffered severe damage. This is a war crime by Russia. We have outlined a plan for restoration work. Let’s be honest, it will take a significant amount of time,” Shmyhal emphasized.

Temporary accommodation and backup heating
Given the critical nature of the situation, the minister instructed that all communal, private, and state-owned facilities that could be used to temporarily house people whose homes were left without heating be analyzed.
At the same time, options are being explored for connecting backup heat supplies to homes in areas with prolonged power outages.
Ukrtransgaz and additional generators will be involved in the work
At the emergency meeting, a decision was also made to redeploy repair crews and special equipment. In the near future, Ukrtransgaz specialists will be involved in the restoration of heating mains.
In addition, additional generators are being installed in the most problematic areas to support the operation of critical infrastructure.
Massive strike on Kyiv: over a thousand homes without heat
As a reminder, last night Russia carried out a massive missile and drone strike, using more than 70 missiles and more than 400 strike drones. Among other things, the capital’s energy facilities were hit.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that as a result of the attack, more than 1,100 high-rise buildings in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts were left without heat.
According to him, the energy facility that provided heat to residential buildings in these districts was significantly damaged.
