Russia attacks Chernihiv region’s railway infrastructure twice in one day: trains are delayed

30 September 2025 22:17

Over the past day, Russian troops twice struck the railway infrastructure of Chernihiv region, which led to the de-energization of certain sections of the track and significant delays in train traffic. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.

Damage and consequences

After the first nighttime shelling, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that traffic in the Nizhyn direction is being provided by backup diesel locomotives, which increases travel time for trains from and to Chernihiv, Sumy, and Shostka.

“Traffic in the Nizhyn direction is provided by reserve diesel locomotives throughout the day, which increases travel time for trains from and to Chernihiv, Sumy, and Shostka,” UZ said.

After the repeated shelling of railway facilities, the company clarified that all trains in the Sumy and Chernihiv directions are now running under backup traction, so delays are possible.

The biggest delays are on the Sumy-Lviv route

The biggest deviation from the schedule is currently on train #143 Sumy – Lviv, which is delayed by about 7 hours.

In the opposite direction, train #144 Lviv – Sumy will also depart with a significant delay.

Ukrzaliznytsia: working to reduce delays

Ukrzaliznytsia has assured that all passengers will receive safe transfers and the schedule will be restored as soon as the power supply is stabilized.

“We apologize in advance for any delays caused. We are working to reduce them and will traditionally take care of safe transfers,” the company’s press service said.
