Ukraine will receive about $5 billion worth of weapons by the end of the year as part of the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program for the purchase of American weapons for the country.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The Secretary General clarified that Ukraine receives about $1 billion worth of weapons every month, and by the end of 2025 this amount will increase to $5 billion.
“We are on the way to supplying all weapons to Ukraine. But this applies not only to the PURL initiative. There is also a Czech initiative on ammunition, as well as efforts by Lithuania and Denmark to purchase defense equipment from Ukraine,” he said.
Rutte also emphasized that European countries will continue to supply equipment from their own stocks. Although after three or four years of war, these stocks are dwindling, deliveries are still possible.
Earlier, it was reported that Spain would allocate €817 million in aid to Ukraine.
Denmark will also provide Ukraine with the 28th military aid package, the total amount of which will be $220 million.
PURL program
The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) is a joint program of the United States and NATO that allows Ukraine to receive American weapons at the expense of partner countries that are members of NATO.
As part of the program, Ukraine provides a list of priority weapons needs, and the partners finance the purchase of the items listed in the US.
In addition, PURL significantly speeds up the delivery of weapons. Purchases are made not by order, but from existing US stocks. In addition, the mechanism allows Ukraine to receive the weapons it needs right now.
