The situation at the front remains tense, and the initiative in the Russian-Ukrainian war is now on the side of the Kremlin, The Economist reports. According to the publication, Russia is preparing an assault on Zaporizhzhia, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to The Economist, despite much talk in Kyiv and other capitals about the end of the war, those on the front lines realize that there are still many battles ahead. Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is currently holding the initiative, and it is unlikely that he will offer a truce until several key battles are over.

The newspaper writes that in Kurakhove, Russian troops significantly outnumber Ukrainian forces, with a numerical advantage of at least six to one. Under such conditions, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain defense, so the retreat of Ukrainian forces from the area may become inevitable.

It is noted that in the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian military is also fighting, Russia is trying to oust the Ukrainian military with the help of a large number of troops from North Korea. The invaders are relying on numerical superiority to weaken Ukrainian positions and push out the forces that remain in the region.

According to the publication, fighting is also beginning in Zaporizhzhia region, which, according to Ukrainian intelligence, could lead to an assault on the regional center, Zaporizhzhia. The city is an important industrial center, and its loss would be a significant blow to Ukraine, The Economist writes.

Analysts point out that this could be another step in Russia’s attempts to establish control over strategic regions.

It should be noted that the situation around Kurakhove is deteriorating: the enemy is storming the positions of Ukrainian forces from the north, south and east, trying to surround the town and take control of the H15 Zaporizhzhia-Donetsk highway.
