US President Donald Trump has again warned that he will significantly increase duties on Indian goods due to New Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Reuters.
On social media, Trump accused India of
“buying up huge volumes of Russian oil and then reselling it on the open market at a big profit… not caring how many people in Ukraine are dying from the Russian war machine.”
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India called the US President’s statements “unfounded and unfair” and emphasized that India
“will take all necessary measures to protect national interests and economic security”.
New Delhi also noted that many Western countries that criticize India continue to trade with Russia.
According to trade sources, India is the largest buyer of Russian oil, importing about 1.75 million barrels per day in the first half of the year. The government insists that such purchases were a necessary step due to changes in the global market after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
However, despite statements about the immutability of the policy, major Indian refiners temporarily suspended purchases of Russian oil last week after Trump threatened “significant” tariffs.

Russia’s reaction
The Kremlin called the US threats illegal. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Washington is trying to force states to reduce trade with Russia and emphasized that
“sovereign states have the right to choose their own trading partners and forms of economic cooperation.”
Moscow reiterated that it will not change its position on the war in Ukraine, despite ultimatums and deadlines from the United States.
The US President said that starting on Friday he would impose new sanctions against Russia and countries that buy its energy carriers if Moscow does not take steps to end the war in Ukraine.
