Russia strikes at American electronics company in Zakarpattia: details
21 August 14:44
On the night of August 21, the Russian occupiers carried out one of the largest air attacks this month: according to the Ukrainian Air Force, 574 drones and 40 missiles were fired at different regions of the country. This was reported by Andriy Sybiga in X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
One of the targets was the American electronics factory Flex in Mukachevo, a civilian enterprise that manufactures household appliances, including coffee makers. Fifteen people were injured there, and a large-scale fire broke out over an area of about 7,000 square meters.
In Lviv, one person was killed, three were injured, and more than 26 houses, as well as administrative buildings and a kindergarten, were destroyed.
Government response
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga emphasized:
“It was a completely civilian facility that has nothing to do with defense or the military… There is no military logic or necessity – only terror against people, business and normal life.”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attack indicative, emphasizing that even the workers’ “coffee machine” was targeted.
Diplomatic context
The strike comes as difficult peace talks begin, increasing international pressure. President Zelenskyy said that over the next 7-10 days, models of security guarantees similar to NATO’s Article 5 would be agreed upon.
Implications
- Flex employs over 2,600 people and is an important employer. The strike did not cause any fatalities among the workers, but two people are in serious condition.
- The attack destroyed a large part of the plant, halting its operations and causing a large-scale fire.
- Ukraine emphasizes the need to strengthen air defense and renew sanctions against Russia, as attacks on civilian targets have become systematic, including the Boeing offices in Kyiv
