Russia struck Kharkiv with four ballistic missiles: what is known about the aftermath

3 April 05:49

On the night of Thursday, April 3, Russian forces launched an attack on Kharkiv with four ballistic missiles. The Kyivskyi district of the city came under fire. According to city and regional authorities, the shelling damaged several high-rise residential buildings, shattered windows, and severed a gas pipeline, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

It is also known that at least one person was injured. Oleg Synyegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, reported that a 63-year-old woman was wounded. She was hospitalized, and medical personnel are providing the necessary care.

What happened in Kharkiv on the night of April 3

The first reports of explosions in Kharkiv emerged overnight amid threats of ballistic missile strikes. Later, Mayor Ihor Terekhov clarified that Russia had struck the Kyivskyi district with four ballistic missiles. It was only after this that reports of damage to residential buildings and the gas pipeline emerged.

This strike followed a previous wave of nighttime drone attacks. Before the missile strike, the effects of the UAV attack had already been recorded in Kharkiv, including damage and fires in various parts of the city. Thus, the night was doubly difficult for Kharkiv: first the drone threat, and then the ballistic missiles.

What is known about the destruction

As of the morning of April 3, authorities reported damage to several high-rise residential buildings in the Kyivskyi district. Windows were shattered in the buildings, and a gas pipeline was severed.

This means that the strike affected not only residential buildings but also city infrastructure, which traditionally complicates recovery efforts and requires additional work by emergency services.

Why the strike on Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi District is particularly dangerous

This is not the first time the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv has come under enemy attack. It is one of the city’s largest districts, with dense residential development, transportation infrastructure, and a large number of civilian facilities. Therefore, any use of ballistic missiles against this part of Kharkiv poses a particularly high risk to civilians.

The type of weapon also poses a distinct danger. Ballistic missiles have a very short flight time, often leaving civilians with minimal time to react. This is precisely why such attacks are particularly dangerous for large cities located near the border or launch sites.

What is known as of this morning

As of the morning of April 3, there was an official report of one hospitalized 63-year-old woman, damaged high-rise buildings, and a ruptured gas pipeline. The information may have been updated throughout the morning, as emergency services continue to survey the area, inspect utilities, and document the damage following such strikes.
