Russia strikes Naftogaz facilities again: what are the consequences?

20 February 12:16

Russian troops attacked the oil and gas infrastructure of the Naftogaz Group in the Poltava region with drones, according to the company’s CEO Serhiy Koretsky, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“The attack caused damage, and a fire is still burning at the facility. Units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are involved in eliminating the consequences. This is another targeted strike on our oil and gas infrastructure,” Koretsky wrote on social media, adding that since the beginning of the year, Russia has attacked Naftogaz Group facilities more than 20 times.

The company recently reported that during the full-scale invasion, Russia has carried out 401 attacks on Naftogaz Group infrastructure, including 229 attacks in 2025 alone – more than in the previous three years combined.

“October 2025 was the most difficult month. During that month, 25 combined attacks were carried out on the group’s infrastructure,” the press service said.

The group added that the attacks caused losses in its own production, forcing it to import additional volumes of gas to ensure a stable heating season.

Attacks on the oil and gas system

Recently, Russia has been systematically striking Naftogaz group facilities throughout Ukraine.

In particular, on the night of February 8, drones struck facilities in the Poltava region. Direct hits and falling debris caused fires at the enterprises, and some of the equipment was completely destroyed.

The very next day, on February 9, the occupiers again attacked Naftogaz’s production facilities in other regions. In both cases, there were no casualties, and the fires were quickly extinguished.

On January 27, a critical infrastructure facility in the Lviv region came under attack by Russian invaders, which also caused a large-scale fire.
