Russia strikes again in Odesa: one of the districts has no heat and water

19 December 09:25

On the night of December 19, the Russian army launched another attack on Odesa region, damaging a critical infrastructure facility. As a result, one of Odesa’s largest residential areas was left without electricity, water and heat. The consequences of the attack were reported by the head of the Odesa regional military administration, Oleh Kiper, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

What is known about the consequences of the attack

According to the head of the regional military administration, the blast wave also damaged a residential building – windows in a five-story building were smashed. One person was injured and is being provided with necessary assistance.

“As a result of the strikes, residents of one of the largest residential areas in Odesa were left without power, water and heat supply,” said Kiper.

Emergency service units, utilities and energy companies are working at the scene. Emergency and restoration works are ongoing, but they are complicated by the scale of damage.

Targeted attacks on the region’s energy sector

The Odesa Regional State Administration emphasizes that the attacks are systemic. Russia has been deliberately hitting the region’s energy infrastructure for several days in a row, trying to destabilize the lives of civilians in the winter.

“The enemy is deliberately hitting vital facilities in an attempt to destabilize the life of a peaceful city,” emphasized Oleg Kiper.

Odesa region has not yet recovered from previous attacks

The region is still dealing with the consequences of the massive attack on the night of December 13, when not only Odesa but also other settlements in the region were left without electricity, water and heat.

The new shelling has significantly complicated the restoration of stable operation of life support systems.

The authorities urge residents to

  • follow the official announcements;
  • use heating points;
  • limit electricity consumption whenever possible after the power supply is restored.

The situation in the region remains tense.
