The Prosecutor’s Office of Donetsk region has reported a new case of the alleged execution of a Ukrainian serviceman by Russian forces, an incident that is being investigated as a war crime. This was reported by the press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the investigation, in November, during the fighting near Hnativka in the Pokrovsk district, Russian troops surrounded a Ukrainian soldier.

After being captured, he was tortured: one of the attackers is accused of tying the soldier’s hands, the other of hitting him in the head with a rifle butt. When the soldier lost consciousness, he was shot.

Law enforcement officers are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved in the murder.

Not the first report of alleged executions of prisoners in recent weeks

In mid-November, there were reports of Ukrainian soldiers being shot in the Zaporizhzhia sector. Initially, it was reported that two soldiers were killed, but Suspilne’s sources confirmed that there were five victims. According to official estimates, the scale of such crimes is growing.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, previously stated that as of early July, at least 268 executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian forces had been documented.

Kyiv insists that such actions are systematic and violate international humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Conventions.
