Train traffic through Kropyvnytskyi restored after Russian attack

20 March 2025 04:00

After the evening shelling of Kirovohrad region by Russian troops, the railway infrastructure was damaged, temporarily hindering train traffic through the Kropyvnytskyi station. However, thanks to the prompt work of the railroad and emergency services, all the necessary repairs were completed, and Ukrzaliznytsia announced the full resumption of traffic at night.

Passengers waiting at the stations were able to travel again, and all trains returned to their usual routes. This message was posted on the Telegram channel of Ukrzaliznytsia, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

As a result of the evening shelling in Kirovohrad region, elements of the railway infrastructure were damaged. A detailed inspection of the damage and the start of restoration work will be possible only after some time, so Ukrzaliznytsia is changing the route of some trains that will arrive late.

Which trains were delayed

To ensure passenger safety, the routes of a number of long-distance trains were temporarily changed:

  • no. 53 Dnipro – Odesa
  • no. 92/60 Odesa – Kharkiv/Kramatorsk
  • no. 7 Kharkiv – Odesa
  • no. 128 Lviv – Zaporizhzhia
  • no. 52 Odesa – Zaporizhzhia

The detour of the damaged sections resulted in traffic delays of at least three hours, for which Ukrzaliznytsia apologizes to passengers.

Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes that no long-distance flights are canceled. Passengers will be transported to the stations in Kirovohrad region that are temporarily out of service by morning commuter trains and additional shuttles.

Situation with the Kropyvnytskyi – Kyiv train

Train #790 Kropyvnytskyi – Kyiv was delayed due to security restrictions. Ukrzaliznytsia reported:

“Flight No. 790 Kropyvnytskyi – Kyiv will depart only after inspection and analysis of infrastructure damage. Currently, all passengers and crew are in the shelter.”

Update at 02:00

march 20 brought good news: boarding was allowed, and the train departed at 02:11 after further inspection of the infrastructure.

Traffic resumption and operational solutions

As of 02:30, Ukrzaliznytsia had fully restored traffic through Kropyvnytskyi station. The statement reads:

“Train traffic through Kropyvnytskyi station has been resumed, there is voltage, all damage has been repaired.”

Train No. 7 Kharkiv-Odesa returned to its route through Kropyvnytskyi, but with a backup locomotive.

Passengers of the train No. 53/253 Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih – Odesa, which is already on a detour, were invited to board No. 7 using their tickets:

“All passengers at Kropyvnytskyi railway station with tickets for train No. 53/253 are invited to board train No. 7 Kharkiv – Odesa. Boarding is on current tickets.”

How Ukrzaliznytsia is coping with the challenges

Despite the attack, the railroad is responding quickly to the situation. The company emphasized:

“We thank the passengers for their patience, and the railway workers in Kirovograd region for their well-coordinated work last night.”

Ukrzaliznytsia promises to announce the exact routes of morning trains and the timeframe for full restoration of the infrastructure later through official channels.
