The Romanian Ministry of Energy has declared a crisis-level emergency in the supply of crude oil due to the contamination of raw materials at the Ceyhan oil terminal in Turkey. This is reported byRomania Journal with reference to Profit.ro, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to official information, the incident contaminated several tanks with a corrosive substance, as reported by BTC Pipeline, the operator of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. The contamination affected a shipment of Azerbaijani crude oil that was to be delivered to the Petrobrazi refinery owned by OMV Petrom.
The expected oil did not arrive at the port of Constanta, which led to a temporary shortage of raw materials at the refinery. In this regard, the Ministry of Energy authorized the withdrawal of 80 thousand tons of crude oil and 30 thousand tons of diesel fuel from the emergency reserves that OMV Petrom keeps in accordance with national legislation.
These reserves are part of the annual mandatory volume of 676,248 tons that the company must maintain. Now, according to the regulations, it must restore the used reserves within two months.
The ministry noted that this is the most efficient solution that will avoid interruptions in the plant’s operation until a new batch of imported oil arrives.
Earlier, Ukrinform reported that in December last year , Moldova also introduced a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days due to supply risks.
