The YC.Market team has published the results of a study of the Ukrainian market for companies engaged in newspaper and magazine publishing, based on data from the Unified State Register and public finances for the period 2023–2025, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the analysis, the largest number of active publishing companies is concentrated in the capital, with 186 legal entities. The top five also includes:

  • Lviv (48),
  • Odessa (33),
  • Dnipropetrovsk (32), and
  • Kyiv region (34).

The fewest companies are registered in regions that have been most affected by the war or have less market potential: Kherson (6), Donetsk (8), Zaporizhzhia (9), Chernivtsi (10), and Ternopil (10) regions.

The financial flows of publishing companies show a high level of concentration. Total public expenditure amounted to UAH 393.4 million, distributed among 429 companies. Kyiv received the lion’s share of funding — over UAH 100 million (26% of all expenditures), followed by Dnipropetrovsk (UAH 79 million), Kharkiv (UAH 72.3 million), Lviv (UAH 14.3 million), and Ivano-Frankivsk (UAH 14 million) regions.

The top 20 recipients of state and local funds include both capital and regional companies. For example, GAZETA “NASHE MIST” LLC (Dnipro) received UAH 65.4 million, VYDAVNYTSV “SVITICH” LLC (Kyiv) — UAH 62.5 million, and LLC “GAZETA “INFOSITI” (Kharkiv) — UAH 53.9 million.

The average size of the authorized capital of the vast majority of companies is small, which indicates the predominance of private small and medium-sized publishing houses, analysts add.

According to YC.Market, the market remains important, although it is gradually concentrating in large cities and gradually declining under the influence of digital media and military challenges.

State and local budgets continue to play a significant role in supporting publishing companies, which highlights the industry’s dependence on public funds, according to the study’s findings.
