25 February 14:52
The Ukrainian Retailers Association has published its annual analytical study on the development of food retail in 2025. The report systematizes data from nearly 30 FMCG retailers—members of the Ukrainian Retailers Association—broken down by region and the dynamics of openings/closures over 12 months, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The study showed that the market continues to grow, and competition between national and regional players is intensifying. The leaders are holding their positions, but “local champions” are demonstrating record rates of expansion.
The largest chains by number of stores in 2025
- ATB — 1,319 stores (67 openings, 10 closures).
The chain remains the largest in Ukraine and has increased its pace to almost 70 new outlets per year. - Clover Stores (Sim23 and Simi) — 443 stores (133, –5).
The regional operator from Lutsk showed the highest growth and surpassed the capital’s Fora chain. - Fora — 399 stores (39, –3).
Part of the Fozzy Group. - Silpo — 312 stores (8, –7).
Minimal net growth, but together with Fora, it secures Fozzy Group’s second position at the national level. - Kolo — 251 stores (18).
- Rukavichka — 222 stores.
- Fayno Market — 219 stores (26).
- Kyivkhlib (branded chain) — 211 stores.
- Thrash! — 192 stores (48, 0 closures).
- Other regional players round out the top ten, maintaining a stable presence in their regions.

The most dynamic chains of 2025
Sim23 and Simy — 41% for the year
This regional player shows the highest growth rates — 133 new stores were added last year, and only five were closed. The main driver is the Simi format with an emphasis on food-to-go. The operator has been demonstrating similar dynamics for the third year in a row.
ATB — 67 new stores
ATB exceeded its 2024 figures by 20 locations. In addition to new openings, seven stores underwent modernization.
Thrash! — 48 stores
The chain has completely revamped its concept from a “hard discounter” to a “Market Super” format. Since 2020, the operator has been growing steadily without any closures.

Active regional players
The Lithuanian retailer Novus is developing just as actively. In addition to its chain of supermarkets of the same name, it is developing Mi Market convenience stores. In particular, the 50th Mi Market store opened in August last year. In 2025, a total of 46 stores were opened and only 3 were closed. As a result, by the end of the year, there were already 155 locations of both chains.
The aforementioned Fora chain expanded by almost 40 stores. Another active regional player is the Faino Market chain. In 2025, the retailer opened 26 new stores and expanded the chain’s presence to 82 locations in Ukraine (13 per year). Thus, the retailer maintained its previous growth rate.
The list of the most dynamic retailers is rounded out by the Kyiv-based Kolo chain, which opened 18 new stores, and the Torba supermarket chain, founded in 2011. The latter opened 11 outlets and now has 61 stores of various formats.
Key trends in food retail
- Active growth of convenience store formats;
- Rethinking discounters into hybrid formats;
- Gradual modernization of existing stores;
- Regional expansion of local chains.
Analysts note that 2025 marked a period of renewed active expansion after difficult years of war. The FMCG market is showing stability and potential for further growth.
