The Polish Senate has approved a new law on foreigners and support for Ukrainian citizens. The document establishes the extension of the stay of Ukrainians in the country and introduces a number of restrictions on social assistance and medical services. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Polish Radio.

The Polish Senate has approved the law on foreigners and assistance to Ukrainian citizens. The document was developed after President Karol Navrotsky vetoed a previous initiative on the status of Ukrainians.

According to the results of the vote, 57 senators supported the draft law, 32 spoke against it, and there were no abstentions. Since the Senate did not make any changes to the version previously adopted by the Sejm, the law is considered finalized and sent to the president for signature.

One of the key provisions was the extension of legal residence in Poland for Ukrainians who fled the country due to the war until March 4, 2026. At the same time, the law tightens control over the provision of social support to foreigners. In particular, the 800 program will now be directly linked to employment and education of children in Polish schools. Exceptions are provided for parents of children with disabilities.

In addition, the document introduces new restrictions on access to medical services for adult Ukrainian citizens. These include drug programs, dental treatment, and medical rehabilitation.

Currently, Ukrainians enjoy temporary protection in Poland until the end of September 2025. In the absence of new solutions, this could lead to problems with legal employment.
