The United States Senate on Thursday passed a massive $925 billion defense budget, which includes $500 million in aid to Ukraine. This is reported by The New York Times, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs

The document received overwhelming support from both parties – 77 votes in favor and 20 against.

The new bill provides for a 3.8% increase in US military salaries, funding for new weapons, modernization of the defense industry, and support for US allies, including Ukraine.

Among other things, it provides for the extension of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative until 2028 and an increase in agreed funding to $500 million.

Main provisions of the defense budget:

  • 3.8% salary increase for the US military.
  • The total amount of funding is $925 billion, which makes this budget one of the largest in US history.
  • $500 million is allocated for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program, extended until 2028.
  • Expansion of the F-35A fighter jet program – dozens of new aircraft are to be purchased.
  • Investments in future technologies: artificial intelligence, drones, hypersonic systems.

The new U.S. defense budget is a signal to allies and adversaries that the United States remains a global military leader and will not reduce its support for Ukraine.

The next step is to get it approved by the House of Representatives and signed by President Donald Trump, after which the document will come into force.
