Another 70 million euros: Germany strengthens winter support for Ukraine

In connection with Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the German government has allocated additional aid to Kyiv in the amount of 70 million euros.

This was stated by German Development Minister Rim Alabali-Radovan, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Tagesschau.

According to Alabali-Radovan, her ministry is expanding aid “to provide heating, water and electricity to more than two and a half million people.”

“Especially now, during the cold winter, immediate assistance is crucial to meet Ukraine’s basic energy needs,” she said.

The funds are primarily earmarked for investments in decentralized heating, such as mobile heating units.

“Municipalities should be able to guarantee heating for schools, kindergartens and hospitals even if large power plants are under attack. These energy supply measures will help people organize their daily lives,” the minister emphasized.

It is noted that the Ukrainian side addressed Germany with a corresponding request.

As a reminder, Ukraine and Germany signed agreements worth EUR 1.2 billion following the Ramstein meeting on December 16. Among them are the purchase of Ukrainian drones by the Germans and Berlin’s payment for the production of 200 self-propelled guns “Bogdan”.

Germany has also recently handed over two Patriot air defense systems and the ninth Iris-T air defense system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
