After the autumn rise in price, buckwheat prices have stabilized and should not rise significantly in the near future. This is in an exclusive commentary to Komersant ukrainskyi this was stated by Leonid Kozachenko, President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.
According to the expert, more buckwheat was sown in Ukraine this year than last year, although the overall trend in the country is to reduce the area under this crop. In total, 89 thousand tons were harvested, which allows us to expect stability in the market of this crop.
“This year we have harvested 89 thousand tons. This is a small amount, although the demand is quite high. Nevertheless, buckwheat prices are not jumping up now, because we sowed more and harvested more,”
– says the farmer.

It’s worth noting that Kozachenko’s and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy’s data are somewhat different. According to the Ministry, as of October 25, Ukraine had harvested 126.9 thousand tons of buckwheat, and this was not the final figure.
Nevertheless, the expert warned that some price fluctuations are still possible, but not due to a lack of products.
“Price hikes may now depend not on how much we have harvested, but on the fact that taxes have increased,”
– emphasized Kozachenko.
