Hundreds of thousands are without electricity every day: The Ministry of Energy explains the scale of blackouts and calls for saving
17 December 17:30
In Ukraine, due to Russia’s constant attacks on energy facilities, an average of about 400,000 consumers are left without electricity every day. This was stated by acting Energy Minister Artem Nekrasov, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Where the situation is most difficult
According to the head of the Ministry of Energy, the border and frontline regions suffer the most from blackouts. The number of subscribers without electricity varies daily and directly depends on the intensity of Russian strikes on the energy infrastructure.
Why the restoration is delayed
Nekrasov emphasized that Russia is attacking not only power plants but also electricity transmission and distribution networks. This combined tactic significantly complicates and prolongs the repair work, as damage occurs at several levels of the power system.
What power engineers are doing
Despite the difficult conditions, work to restore power supply continues unabated. According to the acting minister, power engineers are working almost around the clock to keep the situation in the power system under control.
Why schedules differ between regions
The Ministry of Energy explains the difference in blackout schedules in different regions by the consequences of the shelling. Ukraine’s power system was not designed to operate in the face of massive attacks, and the ability to transmit electricity for hundreds of kilometers is currently limited.
What the authorities advise
The Ministry of Energy calls on Ukrainians to conserve electricity and recommends that energy-intensive processes be postponed until after 23:00 at night. According to Nekrasov, the savings will help reduce the duration and severity of the power supply restriction schedules.
