The Patrol Police Department has denied information about the alleged introduction of a penalty point system for drivers in Ukraine starting in 2026. The reports that have been spreading on social media and messengers in recent days are not true.

This was stated by the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshitsky, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

What the police say

According to Biloshitsky, penalty points for drivers are currently not in effect in Ukraine. At the same time, he confirmed that the parliament and the government are discussing a number of legislative initiatives that could resolve this issue in the future.

“There are currently a number of bills that are intended to resolve this issue and introduce penalty points in the future, following the example of best practices in foreign countries,” he said.

What the patrol police say

The patrol police emphasize that no decisions have been made to introduce a penalty point system, and all relevant developments are only under consideration.

Law enforcement officials also emphasize that in the event of large-scale changes to traffic laws, the public will be notified in advance – exclusively through official channels.

In addition, the police urge citizens to check information and trust only official sources to avoid misinformation.
