Kyivstar’s 4G mobile Internet speed has increased by more than 30%

Thanks to significant investments in infrastructure, active network development and modernization, Kyivstar has increased its 4G data transfer speed by more than 30% in 2024. This was reported by the company’s press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

As noted, high-speed 4G in Kyivstar’s network is already available to more than 95.7% of the population.

The company explained that a significant increase in data transfer speeds during 2024 was facilitated by the active implementation of 4G technology in the 2100 MHz frequency band instead of 3G technology, as 4G technology uses spectrum much more efficiently. Kyivstar has already conducted such tests in 28 cities of Ukraine. The expected result was a significant increase in data transfer speed.

The additional spectrum in the 2100 MHz and 2300 MHz bands, which Kyivstar received as a result of a spectrum auction in November 2024, in turn, increased the ability to improve the quality of services: additional frequencies allowed to increase network capacity and serve more subscribers while maintaining high quality of service.

“The company is actively modernizing its LTE network. At times of minimal load in certain locations, the peak speed in our 4G network, when almost the entire resource of the base station is available to one subscriber, can reach more than 1 Gbps,” said Volodymyr Lutchenko, Kyivstar CTO.

In addition, the electronic communications operator does everything possible to keep its subscribers connected and not to experience a significant decrease in the quality of services during blackouts.

Kyivstar continues to free up frequencies from 3G in favor of 4G

Starting from March 25, 2025, the frequency redistribution will take place in some settlements of Poltava and Zakarpattia regions. According to the company, starting from March 25 this year, the 3G standard will not work in the following settlements

м. Kremenchuk

м. Myrhorod,

Kremenchuk district,

Khust district.

Starting from April 29, 2025, 3G is planned to be switched off in the following settlements:

м. Odesa,

Odesa district

м. Izmail,

м. Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi,

м. Chernomorsk,

м. Pryluky,

ovidiopol village,

м. Pivdenne, Odesa region,

с. Fontanka,

lisky village, Odesa region.

The company reminded that the gradual phasing out of 3G technology is a multi-year project that is of great importance for the entire electronic communications industry, as it not only improves customer experience and increases 4G speeds, but also prepares the network for the launch of 5G technology in Ukraine. And this can be realized, in particular, by freeing up frequencies from outdated technologies such as 3G.
