Ukraine has developed a new support system for families with children with disabilities. The bill, which affects about 160,000 families, provides for funding from the state budget and comprehensive care for the child from birth until adulthood. The author of the bill, People’s Deputy and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Danylo Getmantsev, spoke about this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, the current system of support for such families is practically nonexistent. Many parents cannot work due to the need for constant care for their child, and social benefits often do not cover basic needs.

“We are creating a system that will allow parents to receive assistance regardless of whether they work or not. The amount of benefits will be tied to the minimum wage and will increase annually,” Getmantsev explained.

The bill stipulates that social support services will cover the child from birth until reaching the age of majority, and possibly longer.

Importantly, the state will provide funding rather than shifting the costs to local budgets.

The deputy also noted that the bill is popular among lawmakers. He predicts that the bill could be put to a vote in the second reading as early as April.

“This initiative is not only socially important but also demonstrates effective income redistribution: money should go where it is truly needed, not remain in the pockets of fraudsters,” added Getmantsev.
