You can lose weight, but not for long: a nutritionist tells what’s wrong with Ozempik

Ozempic does help to lose weight, but it does not instill healthy eating habits in a person and therefore does not change their lifestyle. Without sports, a healthy diet, and routine habits, losing weight on the drug quickly becomes meaningless. Fitness trainer and nutritionist Viktor Mandziak told the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel about this in an interview .
“I’m a nutritionist, and I’m not against the burn. Throughout the history of humanity’s fight against obesity, a truly working drug has emerged that has virtually no side effects. But when a person loses weight without the drug, they learn to eat healthy, love sports, and acquire new constructive habits. People don’t learn anything on a diet, because they think that there is no need for a diet if there is a magic pill,” he said.
Mandziak also explained how the drug works.
“Ozempic is a synthetic analog of the satiety hormone GLP-1. When you take it, you are full, and the body begins to draw energy from its own reserves, including fat reserves,” he said.

However, according to the expert, this approach can have serious consequences.
“People on osemopic do not do strength exercises because there is a magic injection. Because of this, they lose muscle – from 20% to 40% of their body weight, namely muscle tissue. There is such a thing as “gluteus maximus” when women lose their shape due to the loss of the gluteus maximus muscle,” he informs.
The expert adds that after giving up injections, most people quickly gain their “starting” weight.
“When the body loses fat, the level of the hormone leptin, the hormone of satiety, decreases. We stop injecting Ozempic, and the appetite becomes savage. People start eating like crazy,” he emphasizes.
Mandziak admits that the drug can be a temporary help for those who are just starting to change their lifestyle.
“Ozempic can be used as a temporary crutch when it is very difficult to change your habits. But if you don’t learn to eat healthy, move and sleep properly, the result will not last. Therefore, you either have to do ozempic for life or start working on yourself,” he summarized.
It should be reminded that Ozempic (active ingredient – semaglutide) was originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes. However, in recent years it has become popular among those seeking to lose weight quickly. Doctors warn that uncontrolled use of such drugs can lead to serious side effects and metabolic disorders.
