How many Ukrainians are still being held captive by Russia: Zelensky makes a statement

15 February 04:07

Russian occupiers are currently holding up to 7,000 Ukrainian prisoners of war. Ukraine, for its part, has 4,000 Russian prisoners.

This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the Munich Security Conference, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing his press conference.

Zelensky noted that the number of Russian prisoners has increased significantly recently. Recently, after all the exchanges, only 1,500 Russian soldiers remained in captivity.

“That is, we are ready to conduct an exchange. If they are ready for ‘all for all’ – great, if they are ready for a thousand for a thousand – not great, but good. But even if they are ready for 100 for 100 – any step is a positive decision for us,” he stressed.

We will remind you that on February 5, Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners for the first time in a long time. 157 citizens were returned home. The exchange was the result of agreements reached during the next round of trilateral negotiations (Ukraine, USA, Russia) in Abu Dhabi.

Prior to that, a combined exchange was held in October 2025. At that time, 185 military personnel and 20 civilians were returned from Russian captivity. Most Ukrainians had been in captivity since 2022.
