Skorochok on the work of NABU: first they offer a deal, then they “rat out” their friend

The practice of plea bargaining, the use of provocations, and high-profile media campaigns without real results in court testify to serious systemic problems in the work of Ukraine’s anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies.
The key problem remains the complete lack of personal responsibility of investigators, prosecutors, and judges for illegal decisions. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the YouTube channel
“The first thing they offer is to make a deal with the investigation. That’s the first thing. And they offer that you betray one of your colleagues or someone else you communicate with from your circle of friends, if these are people who hold certain relevant positions. That’s why I’m saying this,” she said.
Commenting on the issue of the NABU involving agents who have problems with the law, Skorokhod emphasized that provocation is directly prohibited by criminal law. According to her, such methods were used in her own case.
“Look, provocation is prohibited by the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It is a crime. And in my case, there was also provocation. A person came to me, insisted on a meeting, said one thing at the meeting, then said another. I kicked her out. But they showed you a snippet — and I’m in trouble. Although, by and large, it was a NABU agent. Or the SBU, they are so intertwined there that it’s no longer clear who’s who,” she believes.
The deputy named the lack of personal responsibility for illegal decisions as the key problem, because all the financial and reputational consequences ultimately fall on the state, not on specific officials.
“Why? Because they have no responsibility. In our country, if you win the court case and if you win the ECHR, who is responsible for the illegality of the decision? And for your illegal accusation? The state. Not the prosecutor who signed and conducted the case, not the investigators, not the judges, but the state,” she added.
