Kolyadenko becomes European wrestling champion

Ukrainian wrestler Iryna Kolyadenko has won the first gold medal at the 2024 European Wrestling Championships. This is stated on the website of the competition, reports

The European Wrestling Championships continue in Bucharest, with the second day of the women’s wrestling finals taking place on 16 February.

According to Sport.ua, on 15 February, the first day of her performances, Kolyadenko won three bouts in the 65 kg category – against Elma Zeidler from Latvia, Anna Nurnberger from Germany and Eliz Manolova from Azerbaijan.

on 16 February, Kolyadenko’s opponent in the final was Kateryna Zelenykh, a former Ukrainian who now represents Romania. Kolyadenko won the final match with a score of 6-0.

On the second day of the finals in women’s wrestling, the Ukrainian national team won three medals in total. Solomiya Vynnyk (57kg) and Yulia Tkach-Ostapchuk (62kg) won bronze medals.

Intotal, Ukraine has 10 medals at the 2024 European Wrestling Championships (one gold, four silver and five bronze). The continental championship in the Romanian capital will last until 18 February.

This is Iryna’s third gold medal in her career at the continental championships. in 2021 and 2023, she won the European Championships in the weight category up to 62 kg, and in the same category, Iryna Koliadenko won bronze at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
