Massive missile attack on Kyiv: 31 missiles destroyed, injuries reported

After a pause of 44 days, the Russian occupiers launched another missile attack on Kyiv. The enemy used X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS strategic bombers and ballistic missiles from the territory of Russia. The air raid in the capital lasted almost 3 hours. After complicated manoeuvres in neighbouring areas, the missiles entered the capital simultaneously from different directions.

The Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that 31 missiles were destroyed: two ballistic missiles and 29 cruise missiles.

“On the night of 21 March 2024, the enemy attacked with two Iskander-M (KN-23)/Kh-47M2 Kinzhal ballistic/aeroballistic missiles and 29 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles from 11 Tu-95MS strategic bombers (launch areas – Volgodonsk, Engels),

– the statement said.

It is noted that the Russian missiles came from the north. The main target of the attack was the capital, Kyiv. As a result of successful combat operations, all enemy missiles were shot down in the Kyiv region.

According to preliminary data:

Podil district:

  • debris fell on the territory of a non-residential building;
  • a fire at a transformer substation, the fire was extinguished over an area of 200 square metres;
  • information about the fall of debris on the roof of a residential building with subsequent fire was not confirmed;
  • fire on the roof of a non-residential two-storey building, the fire was extinguished.

Shevchenkivskyi district:

  • a multi-storey residential building was damaged, windows were smashed by the blast wave, an apartment was on fire; residents are being evacuated from the building;
  • three cars caught fire;
  • debris fell on the territory of residential buildings between the kindergarten and residential buildings, without negative consequences;
  • the blast wave damaged the glazing of the windows of an apartment building;
  • a private residential building caught fire.

Sviatoshynskyi district:

  • the information about the damage to the building of a preschool educational institution was not confirmed;
  • damage to a multi-storey residential building was recorded – debris fell on the 4th floor of a 9-storey building, the blast wave smashed windows;
  • the car fire was extinguished.

All emergency services are working at the scene, and the aftermath of the missile strike is being dealt with.

As a result of the missile strike in Kyiv, 12 people were injured. There is no information on the death toll.
