Farion case: the suspect’s lawyers seem to be delaying the trial

Today, on May 1, the court hearing on the murder of linguist Iryna Farion was postponed again due to the absence of the defendant Vyacheslav Zinchenko‘s defense lawyers. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to hromadske.
None of the suspect’s lawyers came to the hearing. Lawyer Igor Sulyma was absent at the previous meeting on April 29, explaining it by family circumstances. According to another defense lawyer, Sulima will not be able to participate in the trial at least until mid-May.
The second lawyer, Yuriy Nemyrovskiy, did not arrive today either, as he sent a statement about his inability to be present due to his stay abroad.
The court adjourned the trial until May 14. After the announcement of the postponement, there were reports of bomb threats in five courts in Lviv, including Shevchenkivskyi.
It is worth noting that the two previous hearings also did not take place due to the defendant Zinchenko’s complaints of poor health – first he referred to food poisoning, then to a cold. However, a medical certificate from the pre-trial detention center confirmed that Zinchenko’s health was satisfactory, and he did not seek medical care.

The murder of Iryna Farion and its investigation
on July 19, 2024, political activist and professor at Lviv Polytechnic Iryna Farion was killed by a direct shot to the head on Masaryk Street in Lviv.
Currently, the main suspect in the murder is Vyacheslav Zinchenko, an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro, who was detained by police and will be held in a pre-trial detention center until at least June 8. The young man told the media that he did not kill Farion. Instead, he said that his arrest was desirable for him, as he was being hunted by Russian special services and radicalized individuals on the loose.
A petition was registered on the government’s website to posthumously award the linguist the title of Hero of Ukraine. The petition received the required number of votes, and now it is to be considered by the Ministry of Education and Science, whose head Farion called an ignoramus.
