The Mindich Case: NABU Has Sent Extradition Documents to the Prosecutor General

31 March 15:16

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau is seeking the extradition of businessman Timur Mindich in connection with the “Midas” case.

According to RBC-Ukraine, Alexander Abakumov, the lead investigator in the case, stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel “Ye Vopros” (There Is a Question), as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“We have sent all the materials for extradition to the Office of the Prosecutor General,” he emphasized.

Abakumov noted that the Office of the Prosecutor General has not yet signed the request, although the documents have been there for two weeks. The detective added that NABU expects the request to be signed in the near future.

In addition, he explained that Israel is a difficult country for extradition, and in order to extradite a person, they must essentially transfer the materials of the entire criminal proceeding.

“We have prepared and translated a large volume of evidence into their language to confirm that our suspicion is well-founded,” Abakumov said.

The “Midas” Case

As a reminder, Timur Mindich is a Ukrainian businessman and former co-owner of the “Kvartal 95” studio, who is currently wanted by authorities. He is linked to a massive corruption scandal in the energy sector (the so-called “Mindichgate” or “Midas” operation).

In November 2025, a few hours before the searches, Mindich left Ukraine. Journalists later tracked him down in Israel. During his interactions with the media, Mindich called the case a “media stunt” and denied any wrongdoing.

It should be noted that NABU exposed the activities of a criminal group, which included officials and businessmen, in November of last year. Using their official connections, the suspects controlled personnel decisions, procurement processes, and the company’s financial flows.

As law enforcement officials discovered, members of the group took kickbacks from Energoatom’s contractors. Later, the money obtained illegally was laundered through a special office.
