US increases pressure on Russia: senators initiating sanctions meet with Zelenskyy
30 May 23:54
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, co-authors of a bill on large-scale sanctions against Russia. The head of state announced this on social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Senators from the Republican and Democratic parties arrived in Ukraine on an unannounced visit and met with Zelenskyy.
Russia is “trying to make a mockery of diplomacy,” so additional pressure should be put on it, the president said.
“And I am grateful for the initiative – a bipartisan bill on sanctions, which is already supported by 82 senators. We discussed this and other levers that we can use to force Russia to peace,” the President added.
Zelenskyy thanked the senators for their “strong bipartisan support” and expressed hope for “America’s real involvement at all stages of the negotiations.”
I had a good meeting with U.S. Senators @LindseyGrahamSC and @SenBlumenthal. I am grateful that you are in Ukraine at a time when coordination of efforts is most needed to bring an honorable and lasting peace closer.
