The U.S. government has extended, for the fourth time, the period during which companies are permitted to negotiate and enter into agreements with Russian oil giant Lukoil regarding the purchase of its international assets.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Reuters.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the U.S. Department of the Treasury has extended the exemption from sanctions imposed on Lukoil in 2025 by another month, until May 1.

U.S. sanctions against Lukoil

As a reminder, the U.S. imposed sanctions against two Russian oil companies, Lukoil and Rosneft. Against this backdrop, several EU countries that host Lukoil refineries began seeking solutions to prevent the plants from shutting down.

In particular, the Bulgarian parliament authorized the government to appoint a new refinery director. The plant may be nationalized and then sold to new owners.

Additionally, the Hungarian company MOL has informed U.S. officials of its interest in acquiring the international assets of sanctioned Lukoil.
