The US wants the war to end by summer and is pushing for a clear schedule for negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters.
“Why this summer? We understand that their internal issues in America have an impact and will certainly become even more relevant for them. For the first time, the parties discussed that the most difficult issues could certainly be brought up at a trilateral meeting of leaders. Certainly. But this requires some preparatory elements. It is important that discussions of this format are part of the dialogue,” Zelenskyy was quoted as saying by the news channel “We Are Ukraine, “ according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
He also stated that the US confirms its participation in monitoring the ceasefire.
“The military held talks and understand how, if politicians decide to end the war, Ukraine and Russia will technically monitor the ceasefire, with monitoring by the US. In other words, the US confirms its participation. As for Europe, this does not mean that they will not be involved in the process. I am simply saying what was discussed and what was not discussed at this meeting in Abu Dhabi,” the president explained.
Ukraine has confirmed a meeting with the Russian delegation in the US in a week, Zelensky said. The meeting, proposed by the US, will likely take place in Miami.
The US has proposed that Ukraine and Russia support the energy de-escalation initiative. Ukraine has confirmed the proposal, but Russia has not yet done so, Zelenskyy said. “Russia has not yet done so. They usually go to Russia and then give their answer,” the president said.
